Boo Nieves tallied his first career NHL goal last night, and he has posted a +7 rating in 13 games this season. Nieves is the only NHL player (min. 10 games played) who has not been on the ice for a goal against thus far this season (he has logged 130:58 of ice time in 2017-18).

Not bad, Boo

I didnt realize watching the game that the Hayes line sat the final 10 or so minutes.

If the 4th line can play some serious minutes like they were near the end thats gunna be YUGE going forward

Good blog Jan.

As much as l have liked the Nash/Hayes/Vesey line, they stunk against the Pens. They deserved to sit. Good to see the 4th line rewarded.

I wanted Van to offer sheet Jesper Fast years ago for just under the required draft pick compensation. I bet they regret it now.

I didn't either. The Pens were pressing so hard, I only noticed Grabs.

he really is a guy you take for granted when you think about this team.

12 points in 22 games is not too shabby for a hard working guy making 1.85 a year

I must confess that I wanted NYR to expose Fast or Grabner to expansion draft because I wanted to keep Oscar Lindberg instead. Wow! Was I wrong!
Lindberg not even playing center anymore, they moved him to left wing and he is not having a strong season. I am glad Gorton appears to have gotten this one right....

Yup. Guys like that at his salary are the guys you "need" to fill out a team.

I never understood some of the dislike for him from some of the fan base.

(frank) ya we all worried about losing him and I while I think he would be having a better season if he were still here there is no way you're giving up draft picks for Vegas to take someone else

It's because he's not a superstar. Some of the people around here seem to think that if your roster isn't comprised of the best 20 players in the league the team stinks and you have to start selling off assets to make it such.

True.

Remember the Devils 4th line in the 2012 ECF. Think it was Carter/Gionta/Bernier. They won that series for the Devils.

Very good blog Jan. Boo Nieves is really starting to shine. The trust AV had in him to take the defensive draws against Cindy Crosby is a huge vote of confidence for the young man. I did realize that Hayes line was not on a lot in the 3rd but almost half of it is a shout out to that trio to STEP IT UP! Like to know your feelings on Friday's contest against Caps. Do you come back with Pavlec? He wasn't great but he battled. Im also hoping Coach Benny gets Pavlec to come out of the net a little more. He's going down very early and leaving the whole top of the net open. If he can move out to almost the top of his crease he may be able to cut the angels down. Id like to see Pavs start against the caps and Hank on Sat against Devils. This way the D have to be ready to defend against a very confident Caps team who are playing very well right now. LGR!!!!!

Caps are doing so well without him.

Edit: For some reason I thought the Caps were doing much worse than they are.
